Dr. Beck completed his medical degree and subsequent orthopedic residency at Louisiana State University in New Orleans in 1987. He moved to Salt Lake City to complete a one-year fellowship in knee and shoulder surgery and sports medicine, and stayed in Utah to practice and teach in a training program. He later completed a prestigious European traveling fellowship in sports medicine in 1994.
Dr. Beck has taught in numerous professional courses for practicing physicians and published peer-reviewed research. Dr. Beck has served as a team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams, ReAL Salt Lake, Utah Jynx, and Granite School District, as well as a consultant for several local ski resorts. He serves as a reviewer for two medical journals. He still takes time to teach locally, nationally and internationally. He holds several patents for medical devices used to repair knee ligaments.
Dr. Beck specializes in the treatment of sports injuries, as well as joint replacement of the knee and shoulder, with an emphasis in knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair and transplantation. He works particularly hard to help maintain the athlete’s ability to safely participate in sports at professional, school and recreational levels and at all ages. Dr. Beck is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and has been honored with awards for excellence throughout his career.
He currently maintains memberships at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopy Association of North America.
